The feature
Why it matters
Find the private item you need while keeping organization scoped to the vault whose pattern you used.
01
Organization stays inside one vault
NullVault's hidden-vault model would be weakened by a search box that crossed every pattern. Search therefore runs only against the content already available in the active, authorized vault.
Collections add a useful layer without exposing other vaults. Removing an item from a collection does not have to remove it from the vault itself, and a collection name belongs to that vault's private context.
02
Useful filters without cloud indexing
Type filters and sorting make mixed libraries easier to navigate: narrow the view to photos, videos, files, or notes, then use available metadata to locate an item.
NullVault does not advertise cloud-based image recognition, OCR, or AI classification. Search is deliberately bounded to metadata and text available to the opened vault on the device.
Documentation basis
Documented claims
- Android implements active-vault search, filtering, collections, and collection membership controls.
- The iOS product behavior includes encrypted mixed content, authenticated thumbnails, and active-vault search.
- Android includes private collections, grid and list layouts, detailed sorting, previews, and multi-select controls.
Know the boundary
Important limitations
- Search does not cross locked or separately addressed vaults.
- Search quality depends on the metadata and note text stored with an item; image-content recognition is not included.
- Collection membership organizes items but is not a separate encryption or access-control boundary.
Clear answers
Questions about this feature
Can search reveal items from another hidden vault?
No. Search is scoped to the vault that is currently open.
Does deleting a collection delete its items?
A collection is an organizational grouping. Its items can remain in the vault when the collection is removed.
Does NullVault use AI to scan my photos?
No AI or cloud image-recognition feature is advertised. NullVault uses local, active-vault organization and supported metadata.
